He has created an unofficial plugin that allows MO2 to recognize Skyrim: Special Edition. That is where user Archost/enpinion comes in. MO2 is perfectly usable, but it has no official support for MO2. Recently Tannin42, author of MO, was hired by the nexus team - leaving MO2 in an unfinished state. The release of FO4 prompted MO2, a 64-bit version of MO usable for 64-bit games. Unfortunately(or fortunately), MO is no longer being updated. This opens the door to having multiple mod profiles for the same game, that have no effect on each other. This means your install folder goes completely untouched. It's been available for a few years for the Regular Edition, changing how mods are installed by using a virtual file system. Mod Organizer is an essential tool for modding Skyrim.
